AIT productions
of Australian Goatskins are derived from the major
Export Registered Meatworks in all states of Australia.
Grain qualities of Skins from the different regions
are considered to be consistent and comparable.
The average population of goats in Australia fluctuates
between four and five million depending on seasons,
goat harvesting and hunting pressure. The majority
are found in the drier pastoral regions of Queensland,
New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
Our Goatskin productions are essentially feral (wild)
breeds and all skins are mechanically pulled to reduce
the
incidence of knife cuts and flay damage. Meatworks
take-off and Skin handling procedures are constantly
monitored to ensure quality standards are maintained.
From time to time, Angora Skins are available. These
are graded, packed and sold separately.
Whilst a majority of our Goatskins are processed by
way of Drumsalting, we also produce regular quantities
of Pickled and Wetblue skins. Additionally, we produce
Crust and Finished Goat Leathers for applications including
gloving, shoe upper, boot shafts, garment etc.
AIT selections are generally offered as 80 percent
Firsts/20 percent Seconds.

Free of butchering defects in the main panel of Skin.
Any Skins with small cut/hole at perimeter may be included
in this category provided this fault can be trimmed
from the Skins without affecting the natural pattern.

This grade includes Skins with minimal cuts and/or
misshapen Skins. This grade is free from excessive
holes, is well cured, and free of hairslip damage.
